The Sarvestani Lab, led by Dr. Madineh Sedigh-Sarvestani, employs a systems neuroscience approach to understand how the brain’s visual circuits are shaped by species-specific behaviors and embodied interactions with the environment. Grounded in the principles of embodied cognition, the lab designs experiments that integrate sensory processing, body movement, and behavior, using species such as tree shrews and rats to uncover how visuomotor circuits are optimized across different anatomical and ecological contexts. Beyond its scientific goals, the Sarvestani Lab is committed to mentorship and diversity—Dr. Sedigh-Sarvestani is an HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholar, and the group fosters inclusive training environments for early-career scientists.
