Here is a simple scroll animation; the purpose is to indicate to the user the page is scrollable. This may seem like second nature to scroll web pages but surprisingly not always.

Once the popup is open, scrolling of the entire page is disabled using custom code (body = overflow hidden). This helps longer content in the popup overlay to scroll more comfortably without accidentally scrolling the whole page. For the video popup, additional custom jQuery code is needed to stop the video from running in the background when the close button is clicked.

A keyboard-activated (⌘ + K) menu with arrow navigation.

Had a ton of fun building this project and after some great feedback, wanted to put it out for the community. Most of the functionality comes from the page code in the <head> tag, here's a quick breakdown of the four sections:

1) Initialization: Waits for the HTML and CSS to load before identifying 'modal' and 'closeButton' elements through IDs.

2) Keyboard Toggle: Listens for 'Command/Control + K' key press, toggling the 'modal' element's visibility between 'display: none' and 'display: flex'.

3) Close Button: Assigns functionality to a 'closeButton' element, working seamlessly with the keyboard toggle.

4) Arrow Key Navigation: Disables default arrow key behavior and focuses navigation on modal links, customizing the focused state for accessibility. Exclude links by assigning them the 'ignoreLink' ID.

Apply the 'modal' ID to the content container and 'closeButton' ID to the close element.

This is a quick guide on creating modals that stop the page from scrolling, after you've opened a modal.

Closing the modal via a background click or by clicking on the on the close icon, closes the modal and then makes the page scrollable again.

When keyboard users tab into modals (like a popup or dialog), focus should remain in that window. This helps prevent users from accidentally moving focus outside the modal without closing it. Users should also be able to use the ESC key to close the modal.
