Content management system (CMS)

A content management system (CMS) is a tool for creating and managing a website and its content. It stores images, web copy, and other elements in one place and lets you customize their design. A good CMS makes editing, publishing, and collaboration smoother.

CMS platforms vary depending on their type and function, but here are some features they usually have in common:

  • Web design — Templates and tools customize your website’s design faster
  • Collaboration — Multiple users can work on or view content at the same time
  • Storage — Important assets, including custom code and images, stay organized in a CMS
  • Publishing — Schedule and publish content when it’s ready
  • Content creation — Code editors or visual site builders let you customize web design
  • Workflow system — Customizable editing permissions help you build a workflow process and control who can access content
  • Scalability — A CMS can adapt to smaller projects or scale up to manage larger sites

Webflow’s CMS lets you publish a blog, manage pages, and choose a template that matches your design preferences.
