Plugin

Plugin

A plugin, also called an add-on or extension, is a software component that enhances the host or browser or application by adding new features or capabilities to it.

Third-party developers typically build plugins for browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, adding ad-blocking, password management, or language translation capabilities. Users can easily install, configure, or remove these add-ons as needed, creating a more personalized and efficient browsing experience.

Plugins allow developers to enhance a website or app's functionality without writing new code from scratch, speeding up the development process and promoting efficiency and consistency.

For example, consider a developer who wants to embed a music player into a website. Instead of creating a new interface, they can use a pre-existing music player plugin’s code to save time and resources and deliver the desired functionality.
