Tag

A Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) tag is a code snippet that defines and describes the structure and content of a webpage. Opening and closing tags surround content and indicate the beginning and end of elements, which define web page components like headings, paragraphs, images, hyperlinks, and forms.

Understanding HTML tags is fundamental for building and designing web pages, as they help web browsers format and display content effectively.

For example, this is how tags label a paragraph:

<p>Welcome to our website! This text is between paragraph tags.</p>

In this example, <p> is the opening tag and </p> is the closing tag. The content between the opening and closing tags is the body of text, “Welcome to our website! This text is between paragraph tags.”
