Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)

The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) is a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) project to improve accessibility for users with disabilities. WAI is an influential voice for digital inclusivity, encouraging better web standards to accommodate various impairments, including auditory, cognitive and learning, mobility, seizure risk, and visual challenges.

The initiative offers resources and guidelines to help web designers and developers create websites and online applications that cater to all users, irrespective of their ability. Such strategies include adding alternative text to images for screen readers, using high-contrast colors to improve readability, and providing video captions for users with hearing impairments.

By implementing WAI’s recommendations, businesses can ensure their digital platforms are accessible, user-friendly, and compliant with the latest accessibility standards.
