Key

A key, or web key, is a unique identifier that authorizes or grants access to a webpage or service. It acts as a special identification code assigned to users or programs, enabling verification of their identity and allowing entry to the platform’s content.

Keys can take various forms, such as passwords, cryptographic keys, or access tokens. Computer networks, databases, and other digital services leverage keys to verify the identity and permissions of users and programs.

For example, a web key is necessary to access a mobile banking service’s Application Programming Interface (API). The web key allows the app to identify your unique identity, retrieve the relevant financial data, and display the data on your screen.

Web keys play a crucial role in safeguarding against unauthorized access, adding an additional layer of protection to secure sensitive data.
