Fold

The fold distinguishes the visible portion of the webpage immediately visible to users without scrolling from the remaining content viewable by scrolling down. It’s an invisible line cutting across the screen, separating what’s immediately seen (above the fold) from what lies beneath (below the fold).

The content above the fold is a user’s first encounter with a webpage, shaping their initial impression. It’s crucial to place important information, calls-to-action, and engaging content in the initial visible area to capture the user’s attention and encourage interaction. The area below the fold invites deeper engagement, allowing space for additional content and details, such as the link to a contact page, that enrich the user’s understanding of and experience with your site.

Web designers strive to grab attention while conveying a website's value proposition through above-the-fold content. Visit Webflow University to learn more about building web layouts that balance functionality with visual appeal.
