Deprecating the
legacy Editor

In 2026, Webflow is saying goodbye to our legacy Editor as we reimagine how teams work together. Learn what’s changing, when it’s happening, and how to prepare.

Timeline

February 2, 2026

Client seats become available for freelancer & agency Workspace plans

May 4, 2026

Automatic migration of existing legacy Editor users to client seats or limited seats begins; new legacy Editor users can no longer be invited

August 4, 2026

Legacy Editor is no longer available

What's changing?

We’re replacing the one-size-fits-all approach of our legacy Editor with seats, roles, and permissions that make collaboration more powerful and flexible across teams. (Read more about why in the announcement blog.)

Agency, Freelancer, and Starter (for freelancers & agencies) Workspace plans will get a client seat for each existing legacy Editor user. Growth, Core, and Starter (for teams) Workspace plans will get a limited seat for each existing legacy Editor user.

Overview: Freelancers & agencies

For Workspace owners or admins of freelancer or agency plans

Key dates

February 2, 2026

Client seats now available; no change to legacy Editor invites

  • As part of the client seats rollout, you’ll automatically receive free, unassigned client seats in your Workspace.
    • The number of client seats you receive will be based on the details of your Workspace plan.
    • You can assign these client seats to clients who don’t have legacy Editor access. You can also assign any remaining client seats to existing legacy Editor users to give them early access to the new experience. Click here to see how.
  • You can continue inviting clients as legacy Editor users in new and existing Workspaces prior to May 4.
May 4, 2026

Automatic migration begins

  • Any existing legacy Editor users that you haven’t already assigned to a client seat will automatically get access to one for free — no action needed.
    • These seats are in addition to any client seats assigned before May 4.
    • Clients will be migrated over the course of two weeks.
    • Migrated clients will be assigned the Content editor role by default. You can change this to the Marketer or Reviewer role if needed.
  • Migrated clients can keep using either the legacy Editor or their new role from their client seat prior to August 4.
  • You can no longer invite clients as legacy Editor users.
August 4, 2026

Legacy Editor no longer available

From this point on, your clients will need to use their new roles from their client seats to access and update sites.
