Registrar

A registrar, or domain name server (DNS) registrar, manages the sale of domain names and the assignment of IP addresses, ensuring each domain’s uniqueness. They serve as middlemen between the end user and the domain name system.

For a domain registrar to be deemed trustworthy and reliable, it must carry accreditation from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) — a private organization entrusted globally with managing and allocating DNS resources.

Launching and maintaining a website requires a regular financial commitment, typically billed monthly or annually. This fee ensures exclusive rights to your chosen domain, protecting it from authorized usage by other individuals or businesses.

Each time a registrar sells a domain name, they must register it with a domain registry. This database stores a record of top-level domain names, providing a system for trafficking and monitoring the allocation of domains and their associated IP addresses. This process avoids any duplications and maintains the individual identity of each website.
