How to integrate Chat Everywhere with Webflow

Visitors expect to reach you through their preferred messaging platform. Chat Everywhere adds a floating button to your Webflow site that consolidates WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, SMS, and other channels into a single contact point.

Install Chat Everywhere through the Webflow Apps marketplace for the quickest setup. You can also embed the chat widget using Webflow's Code Embed element for page-level placement, or add it site-wide through custom code settings. All methods require a paid Webflow plan.

Use the Chat Everywhere app

The Webflow Apps marketplace listing for Chat Everywhere provides an official integration with configuration options. After installation, the app requires three permissions to function.

  • Read and write custom code to inject chat functionality

  • Read site data and publishing status

Native features and embed methods

The Code Embed element is Webflow's primary built-in method for integrating third-party chat widgets at the page level. It supports HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code.

Supported code types include the following.

  • HTML for third-party widgets, forms, and iframes  
  • CSS within <style> tags for custom styling  
  • JavaScript within <script> tags for interactive functionality

The character limit is 50,000 characters per Code Embed element. This makes the element suitable for complex widget implementations.

To add the Code Embed element, follow these steps.

  1. Copy the chat widget embed code from your third-party provider  
  2. Add a Code Embed element to your page in Webflow  
  3. Paste the code into the embed editor  
  4. Save the element  
  5. Publish your site for the code to go live

Rendering behavior differs between editing and published states. In Webflow, HTML wrapped in <iframe> or <style> tags shows a preview on the canvas, while JavaScript inside <script> tags displays a placeholder. On the live site, all code renders after publication.

Never include <html>,<body>, or <head> tags in Code Embed elements, as this will break site layout. Server-side languages are not supported. Webflow support does not provide direct help with custom code troubleshooting.

Site-level custom code

For site-wide chat functionality, place your embed code in Webflow's custom code settings under Site Settings. Navigate to Custom Code and paste the script in the Footer Code section. This displays the chat widget across all pages without adding individual Code Embed elements.

Requirements for both embed methods include the following.

  • A paid Webflow plan for custom code functionality  
  • Publishing your site for scripts to appear on live pages  
  • Character limits of 50,000 characters for both site-level scripts and Code Embed elements

Webflow shows placeholders for JavaScript but doesn't run actual code until you publish. After adding embed code through Code Embed elements or site-level custom code, publish your site for the chat widget to appear.

    Additional troubleshooting steps include the following.

    1. Verify you are on a paid Webflow plan, which is required for custom code
    2. Check browser console for JavaScript errors
    3. Confirm embed code placement in footer rather than header
    4. Ensure your Chat Everywhere account is active and embed code is current

  • Yes, you have two approaches for page-level implementation. First, use the Code Embed element to place the chat widget on individual pages only. Navigate to the page where you want the chat widget, add a Code Embed element from the Add panel, paste the Chat Everywhere embed code, save, and publish. The widget will only appear on that specific page.

    Alternatively, you can configure conditional display using custom JavaScript to check the current page URL and initialize the widget only on targeted pages. For example, you could hide the button on your homepage but show it on service or contact pages. This approach requires basic JavaScript knowledge but provides maximum flexibility for multi-page implementations.
