How to integrate Google Search Console with Webflow

Verify your Webflow site in Google Search Console to access indexing status, search performance data, and crawl error reports. The HTML tag verification method is recommended for Webflow sites and doesn't require DNS changes.

Verify site ownership

Complete verification by adding your verification ID to the Webflow site settings:

  1. Open Google Search Console and add a new property using URL prefix type
  2. Select HTML tag verification method
  3. Copy only the alphanumeric verification ID from the content attribute (not the entire meta tag)
  4. In Webflow, navigate to Site SettingsSEO
  5. Paste the ID in the Google site verification field
  6. Save and publish your site (critical — changes only take effect after publishing)
  7. Return to Search Console and click Verify

Submit only your custom domain to Search Console, not your .webflow.io staging domain. Set canonical URLs in Site Settings → SEO to prevent duplicate content issues.

Submit your sitemap

Webflow automatically generates a sitemap when you enable the feature:

  1. Navigate to Site SettingsSEO
  2. Toggle Auto-generate sitemap to Yes
  3. Publish your site
  4. Your sitemap is available at https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
  5. In Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter sitemap.xml, and click Submit

Webflow automatically adds your sitemap URL to robots.txt and updates the sitemap whenever you publish. Google typically processes sitemaps within one to several days.

What you can build

Integrate Google Search Console with Webflow to monitor SEO performance and indexing status.

  • Indexing monitoring: Track which pages Google has indexed, identify crawl errors, and verify new content appears in search results.
  • Search performance tracking: View clicks, impressions, click-through rates, and average position for your pages and keywords.
  • Technical SEO audits: Identify mobile usability issues, Core Web Vitals problems, and structured data errors affecting your Webflow site.
  • Content optimization: Analyze which queries bring traffic to your site and identify opportunities to improve page rankings.

Frequently asked questions

  • Verify you copied only the verification ID string, not the entire meta tag. Confirm your site was published after adding the code. Check you're using URL prefix property type (not Domain property, which requires DNS verification through your domain registrar).

  • Confirm you enabled Auto-generate sitemap in Site Settings and published your site. Verify your sitemap loads at https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml by visiting the URL directly. Submit using HTTPS consistently. Allow adequate processing time — temporary errors typically resolve within a few days.

  • URL prefix verifies specific protocols and subdomains (like https://www.yourdomain.com). Domain properties verify all subdomains and protocols simultaneously but require DNS TXT record verification through your domain registrar. For Webflow, URL prefix with HTML tag verification is recommended.

  • Only verify and submit your custom domain to Search Console, not your *.webflow.io staging URL (Webflow's verification documentation). Webflow automatically adds noindex meta tags to staging domains to prevent indexing. To ensure Google indexes only your primary domain, set canonical URLs to your production domain in Site Settings>SEO as recommended in the canonical URL documentation (Google's canonical URL documentation).
