Flexible Import of Collection Content for Localized Sites

Webflow Localization customers can now choose between importing CMS items into only the primary locale —or link items across locales during import to support proper hreflang generation.

Managing multilingual content just got easier and more efficient with new import controls in Webflow Localization.

Until now, importing CMS content meant that items were automatically created across all locales — even when you only needed them in your primary locale. Today we’re happy to share you now have two powerful import options for CMS items:

1. Import to primary locale only

When uploading CMS items into your primary locale, you can now choose between:

  • Importing them into all locales (as before) or;
  • Creating them only in the primary locale — skipping secondary locales entirely.

2. Link items across locales during import

You can now import CMS items into secondary locales using item IDs that match existing content in another locale (like your primary one). When Webflow detects matching IDs, you’ll have the option to link those items — enabling proper localization relationships and hreflang generation.

Why it matters

  • Reduced CMS clutter
    There’s no need to manually delete unused localized items when you only want to import content into your primary locale.
  • Safer iteration and cleanup
    If you delete a localized item, you can now re-import it and if the item’s id matches another locale, you can choose to re-establish the link — no more permanent disconnects.

Better localized SEO
Linked items automatically generate accurate hreflang tags, helping search engines surface the right language version.
