Help text is a user interface design element that provides additional information or guidance to users to clarify which content should go in a given Collection field.

Think about all the times you’ve needed additional context to fill out a field on a form. Something as simple as “XXX–XXX–XXXX” on a phone number field represents the format to enter your phone number. “MM–DD–YYYY” tells you how to enter the date. 

Help text only appears internally in the CMS, not the public site. It helps clients and colleagues work through complex features or functions within the CMS. If the feature requires multiple steps or inputs, help text that guides people through the process will create a smoother user experience.
