PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

PNG, short for Portable Network Graphics, is a lossless image format known for its transparency support and quality retention after compression.

PNG is a universally compatible image file format for storing and showcasing a vast range of graphics. PNG files have a ".png" extension and can display up to 16 million colors. It isn't a patented file format, allowing designers to open any PNG file in an image editing application without a license.

The format distinguishes itself with its ability to handle transparency. This attribute makes PNGs superior to JPEGs (Joint Photographic Experts Group) in situations that require transparent backgrounds for seamless integration into websites and applications.

PNG formats also preserve the original image’s fidelity even after compression. This quality ensures that websites load quickly without compromising image quality.
